All the teachers working with Flex Pilates have completed their training with The Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute (APPI). Based in London, this company was originally founded by two Physiotherapists from Australia, Glenn and Elisa Withers, who studied the Traditional Pilates repertoire (both matwork and equipment) and found the exercises to be challenging, particularly for clients who perhaps had pathology. This meant that they couldn’t use the exercises with all clients.
Due to the limitations of the Traditional repertoire, they decided to look at all 34 exercises and modify them to make them suitable in the rehabilitation setting, thus allowing the programme to be delivered to all members of the public safely and effectively. The APPI is committed to evidence-based practice and their philosophies and methods of teaching are based around solid research. The programme is now taught worldwide by Health Professionals with a background in anatomy and an understanding of pathology so that it is a very safe exercise method for anyone to enjoy.
